What were you afraid of as a child?

When I was younger there was a tree shadow that plagued my nights. The wind would blow and the shadow would eerily creep along the curtains. When I was a bit older Unsolved Mysteries would come on and I would have to walk my cousin home. Each and every time we swore we saw space aliens. On the way back I would have either a stick or a baseball bat for protection. It really didn’t matter because I always ended up running back to my grandmother’s house.

Do you sing in the shower, if so, what do you sing?

I do sing in the shower. It really depends on my mood. Lately I have been singing original songs. Yes, I do have songs that I’ve written. Whether they will be released at some point or not, I don’t know.

Green Lantern, Captain Marvel or Superman?

I was such a Superman fan when I was younger. Now I would say that I like Superman but I am more of a Captain Marvel fan. In fact, any time they have ever battled I have openly rooted for Capt. Marvel. Green Lantern does not do much for me either way. I think the character is cool, and I enjoyed the Green Lantern video game on PlayStation 3, but I am not much of a Green Lantern guy.

What is your ancestry?

I am African, French Creole, Irish, Native American.

A Painful Life lesson?

Sometimes it is better to keep quiet and wait it out. I am a fixer. I try to fix things that are broken. Sometimes it is better to not micromanage situations. In fact, I would say that patient positivity usually helps more than well meant criticism.

I have done a lot of things in my life. I have performed onstage at a Christian festival with a “Rock Band.” I have promoted professional wrestling. I have acted in plays and on film. I have met state governors that became presidents.

I have done so many things in my lifetime that whenever I tell someone about my life they usually believe I am lying.

Let’s face facts. Most people don’t do anything in their lifetimes. I don’t mean financially or even physically. I mean that most people are too afraid of failing to try anything. I can understand that. I fail constantly.

My rock career was a bust. My wrestling career ended when a rival promoter turned me in for running an “Outlaw” wrestling promotion. Not even my relationships are exempt.

At the end of the day I succeed because I fail. I don’t run from my fears. I embrace them and run hand in hand with them.

Have you ever been to a psychic or a fortune teller?

Not exactly. My mother had a friend that claimed to be psychic. She read handwriting from an ex-girlfriend of mine and declared we would be back together some day. I am glad I didn’t hold my breath for that reunion.

As an actor, do you like or dislike seeing yourself onscreen and why?

I both like and dislike it. I am very critical of myself at times. It is difficult to sit back and enjoy the performance at times. Other times it is quite cool. It really depends on the work.

Has anyone ever intimidated you? If so, who and why?

Situations have a been daunting at times, but people don’t generally intimidate me. I will say that I come off as a complete dork to my friend’s sister and one of her friends. I don’t know why but I am so weird with her. She once told him that she didn’t know which guy I would be the next time I saw her: Urkel or Stefan

Do you use funny voices when you read to your kids at bedtime?

My children are older now, so I don’t read to them very often. When they were younger I did make different voices and story appropriate sounds. I don’t know that my voices were funny as much as they were me trying to make the story more entertaining.

How do you react to criticism, professionally and personally?

I don’t mind criticism if the person years me feedback on how to be better. I like learning and I believe that constructive criticism can be good for you. That said, I really don’t like dealing with overly negative people or people that like to end things on bad terms.

Food you hated as a child, but came to like as an adult?

There are many, many, foods I can list. I can even tell you foods I no longer like now. I suppose the biggest change would be “Hot and Spicy” Chicken. I hated the stuff as a child. Now, as an adult I sometimes crave it. The reverse: Candy and Cakes. I will occasionally get a taste for something sweet, but it is not nearly as often as when I was younger.

What do you remember about your 18th birthday?

Not much. I remember expecting some huge change to occur, but it never did. It was just like any other day.

What is the worst nickname you’ve ever had?

Everyone calls me Lyn. When I was in college I had a really hot girlfriend, and I was quite thin. Because of this I was deemed “Skinny Pimp” by the football players. Later my little brothers took to calling me “Po Pimp” which didn’t have the same ring to it. Overall, I have not had too many terrible nicknames.

How old were you when you first picked up the guitar and what was the catalyst for wanting to?

I was 19 years old when I bought my first guitar. I had wanted one for years, but my mom would not get me one. She was certain that I would never use it. I think bands like Nirvana, Green Day, and Pearl Jam inspired me to want to play. I wanted my own band.

Do you like your driver’s license photo?

Not really. I loved my old Arkansas driver’s license. I had a great smile in it. I look like a zombie in my latest one. A smiling zombie.

Who was your first love and the first time you told a girl you love her?

My first crush was a girl in 1st grade named April. She moved from “Parts Unknown” and stole my heart. I would write her little letters expressing my “love” for her. My first real love was in college. I met a girl in my first semester and fell madly, deeply, truly with her.

If you could trade places with anyone in the world for 24 hours, who would it be?

No one. I am very content being me. I would love to experience different situations, but only as myself.

What talent do you wish you had?

I can do so many things that I think the better wish would be more time to perfect everything.

Do you ever cook out or barbecue? If so, what is your specialty?

I have never barbecued in my life. I love eating it, but I have just never had an opportunity to actually prepare it.

What is your idea of the Perfect First Kiss?

For me, the perfect first kiss is all about closeness; intimacy. It is as much about emotional connection as it is about physical sensation. It is that second just before contact when it seems like your body is just going to burst with excitement. An extreme build up of passionate emotion followed by… (laughs)
